What would happen if a wedding that was less than a month away for rescheduled and the bride and groom decided to keep all of the donations to use on themselves? Well, total and chaos.
The Big Day
The month before the wedding can be stressful. A lot of things are starting to fall into place, or out of place. Sometimes, it can get too much. For this couple, they decided to call off their winter wedding.
Waiting for Warmer Days
The wedding was supposed to take place on December 1st. It was November 3rd when the couple decided to call off the wedding, which they felt was more than enough notice for the guests. There was a horrific catch, though…
Deliberations
The bride, Pam, wrote in the event group of Facebook telling everyone the bad news. “After much reflection and tear-filled conversation with our closest family members,” she writes, “we have decided to cancel our upcoming winter wedding.”
How Come?
Pam doesn’t say why they want to cancel but makes it clear that her marriage to her fiance, Edward, is not off. In fact, she writes that she plans to honeymoon with him despite the lack of wedding with the “generous early donations” from their friends and family… A whopping $30,000.
She Wants Even More Things
“In the meantime,” she concludes, “I’ll be updating our gift fund registry on Amazon if anyone would like to gift us something to take on a honeymoon.” So, not only is Pam taking the $30,000 for a bogus honeymoon, she wants more money to take some things on said honeymoon. Is this for real?
Don’t Worry, There Will Be Another Wedding!
Pam decided to let everyone know that there will be another wedding and that another donation pool will be open to supporting that one… Um, what?
Going Viral
Naturally, the attendees at the wedding were confused. Pam’s post was a lot to process. It wasn’t surprising that this post ended up on r/ChoosingBeggars on Reddit. Someone, who was later referred to as a “snitch,” was just as appalled that their money was going towards a honeymoon that they felt public shaming was the best way to go.
Is This a Scam?
Although this was a wedding involving close friends and relatives, many people couldn’t help but speculate that this was some sort of scam or a prank… How could she possibly be serious?
Total Outrage
The comment’s on Pam’s post blew up. “Is the wedding really cancelled[sic]?” her friend asked. “I’ve already gotten the time off for Dec. 1 which is less than a month away.” Not only was Pam stealing the wedding donations, but she was also causing more loss of income for the people who already made traveling arrangments.
Pam Respond’s
For some reason, Pam was shocked at everyone’s reactions. She couldn’t believe that her family was being so selfish as to react badly to the fact that she was stealing their money. Sorry, using their “donations.”
It Only Gets Worse
More and more people are coming forward about the injustice that she’s doing. Even the groom’s friends and family are coming forward and calling her out, including this guy who had to take a week off of work to be in the wedding and travel.
Brides Friend to the Rescue?
To make matters worse, she had a bridesmaid on her side somehow. This only seemed to make everyone else angry because Pam has absolutely lost her marbles!
She’s Actually Serious
Well, it looks like Pam is serious. She genuinely believes that it’s her money, despite the fact that it’s not going to the wedding like the original purpose. I guess she doesn’t realize that it’s still stealing…
A Donation Is Just That: A Donation
People have gotten jail time to stealing way less money in a donation pool. For example, take the GoFundMe Homeless case in Philly…
Good Samaritan?
Long story short, a couple and a homeless man created a scheme to scam people out of their hard-earned cash. The homeless man gave the woman his “last 20 bucks” so she can get gas because her car broke down in Philadelphia. Turns out, that story never happened.
They Opened a GoFundMe
They decided to open up a GoFundMe to help the homeless man. They ended up scamming over $400,000 and tried to split it three ways. Luckily, they were caught and are all facing some good, good jailtime.
No Calls, Please
Nope, not even from Grandma! At this point, Pam is starting to think that she can just plug her ears and it’ll all just go away…
Playing The Victim
After being bombarded with phone calls, Pam decided to release yet another statement. Naturally, this somehow made things even worse!
Social Media Blackout
AKA, plugging her ears some more. As if her “financé” wants to deal with this, either…
A Spa Trip?
Even though Pam and Edward are in financial chaos, she was still able to head to the spa to try and relax. It’s unclear why she would say that… It’s not going to garner any sympathy!
Bridesmaid vs. Bridesmaid
As a friend of the bride, I’d be angry, too. As a bridesmaid, you have to spend money on a dress and other activities that the bride wants to do. They all prepared for one wedding, now they have to prepare for another one?!
The Rich Uncle
The worst part might just be the fact that her poor Uncle donated $12,000. It makes sense that Pam would ignore his calls… He wasn’t having it!
Taking You to Court!
Rich Uncle did not hesitate to take his bratty adult niece to court. Who wouldn’t? It’s not that much of a stretch that he would want all of his money back… Especially since he definitely donated the most.
Pam Wasn’t Happy
“That’s not how donations work!” Well, Pam, you clearly don’t know what donations mean! She believes that her uncle has no class, yet she’s the one stealing all of the money. Luckily, he’s not backing down…
You Go, Rich Uncle!
“Undisclosed personal purposes” means that it’s for personal purposes, which means that you can’t use the donation! This woman is absolutely insane.
Viral on Reddit
Naturally, the folks on Reddit had some fun with this one. The thread that it was posted it is generally just fun in shaming bad people like Pam. It only seems like she’s upset about being on the website because people don’t agree with her…
Total Radio Silence
Since then, there hasn’t been an update. Needless to say, no one would be going to Pam and Edwards wedding even if they did decide to have it on the first of December anyway. This is a really good way to burn some bridges…
What About Edward?
Edward was famously quiet on this thread. It really makes one think that he might be dealing with a Bridezilla and has to, “yes, dear,” through the entire debacle.
How To Alienate Your Family
Even though her mom tried to come to the rescue, the other family members really don’t seem interested in another wedding… Or the original one, for that matter!
Hopefully, Pam Came To Her Senses
Even though it seems impossible, we’re hoping that the deleted post means that Pam decided to own up to her mistakes… Although, that’s probably not the case.
