DNC "Taking Over" After Unverified App Botches Iowa Caucus Results

After Monday's failed Iowa caucus, the Democratic National Committee is "taking over" the results as state party representatives have yet to provide a complete timeline pertaining to the release of the results.

The DNC claims to have been "actively engaging in calling the leaders of each [caucus] precinct in order to verify the results."

Des Moines precinct chairman Carl Voss confirmed that the DNC had contacted him to request a copy of his tally sheet; Polk County Democratic chairman Sean Bagniewski said the same. According to Bagniewski, the DNC is calling all precinct chairs and asking about their final results.

Both Bagniewski and Voss confirmed that they don't believe this has ever occurred in previous caucuses.

"What happened last night in Iowa should never happen again. We have staff working around the clock to assist the Iowa Democratic Party to ensure that all votes are counted," said DNC chairman Tom Perez in a series of tweets Tuesday evening.

He added, "Our immediate goal is to ensure that every vote is counted as quickly as possible. Accuracy is our guidepost."

Since Monday night, the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) has been in upheaval after an app commissioned by the organization severely botched the voting count. The app was designed by Shadow Inc. in order to streamline the process of reporting caucus results.

The IDP released 62% of results as of Tuesday.

"We're going to take the time we need to get these results done," IDP chairman Troy Price said.
