‘Making a Murderer’ Subject Brendan Dassey Writes New Governor for Clemency

The true-crime community was up in arms over the Netflix series Making a Murderer. The show details the 2005 murder and rape of Teresa Halbach and the trial proceedings afterward.

Brendan Dassey was 16-years-old when he was convicted of Halbach’s murder. It became evident that the police swindled the mentally challenged teenager into confessing to the murder. The tapes show police leading him into the confession, and Dassey alone and confused about what was happening.

Audiences were captivated by his childlike behavior and interests. Despite his confession, which many people still believe was made under pressure, he claims his innocence.

Wisconsin has recently gotten a new governor, and the 29-year-old inmate wrote out a note to him asking for clemency.

The note itself reads as if a child had written it, which is a common theme to the entire investigation.
