Guillermo Del Toro (director of The Shape of Water and Pacific Rim) produced this reimagination of Alvin Schwartz’s classic short stories.

The first trailer to reveal anything about the upcoming Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark has just been released and it’s just as terrifying as the books, plus more. This film will be released to theaters on August 9th, 2019.

Del Toro and director Andre Overdal have combined several of Schwartz’s short stories into a larger overarching plot. Kind of reminiscent of the remake of It and Stranger Things thematically, the setting gives way to incredibly detailed depictions of the handpicked monsters from the book.

For those of you who have never read Scary Stories To Tell In The dark, they’re a 10-year spanning collection of short horror stories written by Andrew Schwartz and published from 1981-1991. These writings were accompanied by bone-chilling illustrations by Stephen Gammell. The illustrations themselves have built a reputation as some of the scariest illustrations ever done for a ‘children’s book.’

So far, The Pale Lady, Harold the Murderous Scarecrow, The Red Spot, and Mr. Jangly have been revealed through the trailer. We are all excited to see what other characters are going to jump into the fray.
