The pyramids were built during a time when Egypt was one of the richest nations in the world. The pyramids also reflected the current Pharoah, and the unique role that they played in society. Because they've also been stripped of their smooth limestone exteriors, the pyramids no longer reach their original heights. Still, despite the lack of luster, the pyramids still draw in millions of visitors a year. Their glorious pasts are still momentous enough to continue to captivate audiences.
