While attending a local adoption event, a family in Jacksonville, Florida had a chance encounter that they never expected.
The Jacksonville Humane Society explained that the family spotted Dopey, their dog who had been lost since the summer, while they were queued up to adopt a kitten. The father saw "a brown and white dog being leashed to go for a walk."
He shouted, "That's my Dopey!" Dopey, who recognized the sound of his owner's voice, rushed over to the family and "leapt into their arms, covering them with kisses." Dopey had been missing since August and arrived at the animal shelter as a stray dog on October 1.
The rescue wrote, "His family never lost hope and they are thrilled that their sweet pup is back home!" They added that stories similar to Dopey's "are proof that generosity breeds joy in Jacksonville every day."
