First Woman to Complete 330-Mile, 5-Day Triathlon Is a Cancer Survivor

Andrea Mason hardly ate and barely slept throughout the duration of the "insane" Sea to Summit triathlon, in which she swam, cycled, and ran over 330 miles in only five days.

Located in the French Alps, Mason swam the circumference of Lake Annecy, then cycled and ran up Mont Blanc, the second-highest peak in Europe standing at 15,774 feet.

The most inspiring part of Mason's journey, however, is that she is a cancer survivor.

The 39-year-old was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and cervical cancer in 2017. She underwent a life-saving operation and now hopes to spread awareness of women's reproductive health, especially endometriosis—a condition that causes extremely painful or heavy periods.

Mason fought her way through cramps, hallucinations, and agonizing pain, but after setting off at 6:15 a.m. on Friday, she managed to complete the race in just 19 minutes short of five full days.

"I feel happy, exhausted, and relieved," Mason said.
