The Junk Room
Then... it was time for the junk room. Toddrick was dreading tackling this room. He had no idea what would be in there, all he knew was that his grandparents stashed away tons of things in this room for "later." This was going to be a doozy.
Sifting Through the Mess
The junk room used to be their art room. There were decades-old projects in there that were left unfinished. Piece by piece they got through the room until one cupboard was left untouched...
Something Was Off
After they cleared out the cupboard, he noticed that the panel at the bottom of it was loose. So, he decided to try and take it off...
What Was He About to Uncover?
Underneath the wood, there was a lot of dirt and gravel... It seemed like the tile flooring was missing underneath the cupboard. Something was telling Toddrick to keep looking... This was very out of the ordinary!
A Hidden Safe?
To everyone's surprise, he found a hidden safe buried deep in the ground underneath the house. His grandmother had no idea what it was, either! She definitely didn't have the combination for it... So, Toddrick and his dad decided to get down to business and open it up.
Opening It Up
The two men wasted no time in trying to get that sucker open. When Toddrick brought the safe to his dad, he was just as curious! Who knew what secrets were in there? Was it from a previous owner? Or was it Toddrick's grandfather playing his old tricks?
The Contents Inside
Once they got it open, they were met with an elegantly hand-written note. It read, "Abandon all regret ye who enter here." Toddrick thought that was extremely creepy and eerie, but it was also something his grandfather would write just to freak someone out... He was a bit of a trickster.
A Telling Chinese Symbol
They flipped the black cloak over to reveal a Chinese symbol. The meaning behind the symbol means "double happiness." It's commonly seen in Chinese weddings! Now, the symbol has been commoditized and is used on commercial products.
This Was Extremely Old
Just by looking at the cloth, they could tell this was old. The cloth was covered in rust and was very stiff. Toddrick's dad said that it could have been a time capsule... So, it was time to find out! Maybe they would uncover some wild family drama?
This Was It
After removing the cloth, they realized that everything was wrapped in the cloth. It was probably done like that for safekeeping... Which was definitely a good idea! If whoever buried this hadn't wrapped the items up in a cloth, they would have been ruined...
Some Goodies
They were shocked at what they found! It definitely was a time capsule that was hidden away decades ago. Toddrick picked up the photo of the woman—he didn't recognize her. Luckily, his grandmother did!
Great-Great Grandma
This lovely lady was none other than his grandfather's grandmother! That means she was Toddrick's great-great-grandmother! This photo is absolutely priceless. Who else has a photo of their grandparent's grandparents?
A Mysterious Pouch
The next thing they looked at was this pouch. It was in great condition and kept the valuable items inside safe. They were surprised to see an incredible family heirloom...
A Golden Pocket Watch
Inside of the pouch was a solid gold pocket watch! On the back, the date 1776 was engraved. Back then, it was common for people of high status to carry around golden objects, including pocket watches.
Even More Valuables
The pouch was also filled with even more valuables! Stamps and medals were safely stored with the pocket watch, indicating that these all belonged to one person. The stamps themselves were in incredible condition!
A Wild Collection
Toddrick listed out all of the countries of the stamps that he found: Soviet Union, Hungary, Bulgaria, Zaire, Poland, North Korea, Romania, France, New Zealand, Katanga, Italy, USA, Tanzania, Uzbekistan, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Vietnam, Australia, Rwanda, Spain, Argentina, Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil, Nicaragua, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and Belarus. Some of these countries don't even exist anymore!
Not a Genie Lamp!
"Unfortunately," Toddrick wrote, "not a genie lamp." This was most likely lamp that would old a handle on it. Back in the day, this is what people had to carry around if they wanted to get around their house at night!
Blurry, But Cool
Toddrick was a bit too excited to pay attention to the photos he was taking! He couldn't believe that he found something like this... It was such a menial thing, but something that his great-great-grandparents probably used every day!
A Plastic Container
Inside the plastic container was tons of cool coins that must have been collected over the years. There were 15 coins kept away in that container from all over the world. Some of them were very old, he said and were quite valuable.
Coins From All Over the World
These are some of the coins that were in there. They came from places like Southern Rhodesia, New Zealand, Australia, USA, South Africa, Jamaica, Pakistan, Cuba, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela.
A Golden Key
In another twist, Toddrick found a golden key. What did it unlock? His father wasn't sure, and neither was his grandmother. Sadly, they won't ever know what it will unlock, but it's still quite cool!
Grandpa's Dad
Toddrick's father recognized this guy... That was his grandfather! It quickly became apparent that Toddrick's grandfather put this time capsule together. How else would there be a photo of Toddrick's great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother?
Priceless
These items were obviously priceless. They must have had a lot of value to Toddrick's grandfather for him to keep them hidden underneath the house for so many years! They assumed that most, if not all, of these things, belonged to Toddrick's great-grandfather and were tucked away for safe-keeping.
Definitely Grandpa
Toddrick went back to the note and had to laugh. His grandfather would leave a terrifying note on top of something this incredible! Some of these items had some monetary value, but most of them were important to the family.
Who Would Have Thought?
Toddrick's grandmother was the last person to think that anything of value would have been in their junk room! Over the years, they just tossed in things that they weren't ready to get rid of... But this find was fantastic!
Adding to the Collection
His grandmother was an avid collector (obviously) so she knew that she had to add them to her collection! After his grandmother passes, he will take great care of these objects and hopefully pass it down to the next generation in his family. It's a history worth knowing!
What Else Could Be In That Crazy House?
Now that they found this treasure, they had to wonder... What else could be in that house? What other secrets does it hold? After all, Toddrick only found it by digging through his grandmother's old junk room at the bottom of a closet. Maybe Grandpa had more tricks up his sleeve!
