The COVID-19 epidemic is happening to the lives of both adults and young children across the globe. One little girl's letter is showing just how much the latter has been affected. Kourtney Wood, only eight years old, wrote this letter to Santa from the UK:
“Dear Santa, All I would like for Christmas is for the world to go back to normal! I don’t know if you can do that but if you can’t do that it is OK. I don’t mind if I have nothing, I do have everything, well, I do have everything I need. Thank you."
Kourtney never sent the letter, but her mother Samantha Dickens found the note while cleaning out Kourtney's room. Dickens, a medical assistant, was shocked that her daughter hadn't asked for craft supplies or slime toys. Instead, she wanted life to go back to normal.
"I was absolutely gobsmacked,” Dickens, 34, said in an interview, "I knew she’d been struggling with lockdown and COVID. But it really hit me when I saw it on paper."
The post went viral thanks to a group called "Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas” on Facebook. It wasn't long until Dickens' post went viral with more than 15,000 likes and loads of comments lamenting the same issues. Though she was annoyed at the current state of affairs, she couldn't help but feel comforted by those who felt the same way.
