To moms who are about to give birth, having an airtight birth plan can really take the pressure off! Especially if you’re a first-time mom. For these to-be parents, things went completely awry and everything changed, including the identity of their doctor. After things were said and done and the baby was born, that’s when they found out the true indentity of the doctor who saved this family… Needless to say, they were in completely shock and awe.
Letâs Start At The Very Beginning
A young couple from Nebraska were excited to share the news of their pregnancy with family and friends. Kristina McIntosh and Kyle Smith held an adorable photo shoot to announce the big surprise. They were your average, run of the mill soon-to-be parents who were extremely excited about the new baby.
More Surprises
As the pregnancy progressed, they were excited to receive even more news! The baby’s due date would be falling right onto Kristina’s birthday. Now, although babies aren’t usually born on the due date, Kristina always said she was still so excited to celebrate two incredible days so close to each other.
A Nervous Pregnancy
Kristina was extremely cautious during her pregnancy. She was scared of being unhealthy or introducing any problems to her body or the baby. Everyone’s pregnancy is different, but she was determined to be at her healthiest. She reported going on walks every day and paying close attention to her diet. Yoga was also a huge part of her pregnancy, and she even took special classes that were said to be directly beneficial to the baby. But was it all in vain?
Best Time of Her Life
Kristina recalled her early days of the pregnancy. “It was beautiful. Probably no words could describe that feeling. Just the warmth of having a life developing inside you provides you with immense joy and satisfaction”. She even laughs, “Now, I understand what it was when my mom used to say, you will experience it once you yourself turn into a mother.” As things got closer to the due date, everything got very real, very fast.
Picking the Hospital
As the day got closer and closer, the couple knew that they needed to finalize their birth plan. When choosing the hospital they wanted to have the baby in, they both knew that it was important to have the best hospital around and one that they were familiar with. It was an easy choice after a quick negotiation. Coincidentally, they were both born in the same hospital: Bergan Mercy Hospital. What a sweet way to bring their daughter into the world, they thought. In a twist of events, they had no idea just how important this decision was going to be.
Things Got Moving Quickly
As they got closer to the due date, they were more than relaxed. Everything was going smoothly, as Kristina remembered. Then, everything changed. Weeks before the due date, Kristina was woken up around midnight with horrible pains in her stomach. She wasn’t sure if they were real contractions or Braxton Hicks contractions. If they were Braxton Hicks, that meant that they were just ‘false’ and nothing to worry about. But if they were real… Well, the couple didn’t want to risk it. It’s a good thing that they didn’t!
Heading Out To The Hospital
They were getting things ready and putting final touches on the hospital bag when her water broke. This was so soon and they were not expecting their baby to come this early! Putting panic aside, they called the hospital and told them that they were coming and that they needed help.
Of Course… Complications Arose
Just went things began to ‘calm down’, things got worse. Kristina and Kyle got to the hospital with a staff ready to help. The room was all set up for a labor and Kristina got checked out. That’s when disaster struck. The baby was in a horrible position for labor. They needed to call in an expert, someone who was not the intended doctor.
Dr. Jorge Sotolongo
The hospital called in their best: Dr. Jorge Sotolongo. Dr. Jorge is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Council Buffs. He is very well known among many of the hospitals in the area for his excellent labor and delivery skills. He is listed as one of the top 25 doctors at CHI Health Lakeside who specializes in gynecology. He is the man for emergency cases like Kristina’s.
Special C-Section
Unfortunately, due to the critical positioning of the baby. Dr. Jorge recommended that they go into the surgery ward to perform a cesarean section in order to get the baby out in a healthy manner. This is an extremely difficult procedure for baby and mom, but it’s necessary to birth the baby safely. It’ll be a taxing recovery, but Kristina is ready.
Preparing Mom
Kristina’s situation was quickly escalating and they knew that they had to move quickly. Â Dr. Jorge needed to stabilize Kristina’s condition and make sure that the unborn baby had a stable heart rate. Once he was able to get Kristina’s blood pressure in a normal range, they were ready to move her into the surgery room to deliver the premature baby.
All Was Fine!
Dr. Jorge worked wonders and was able to deliver the baby in just under an hour. They sewed Kristina back up and moved her into recovery while they took the baby to check the vitals. Since the baby was premature and went through an extremely difficult labor, they needed to make sure that they had passed all the hurdles…
Healthy Baby Girl!
Dr. Jorge ended up delivering a healthy baby girl to Kristina and Kyle. The new parents claimed that Dr. Jorge was their guardian angel and that things would have gone so differently if he hadn’t been there. Hunter-Rose was given life by an incredible doctor. The parents claimed to feel so indebted to him and that he was now a wonderful part of their life. What they didn’t know was that his roots go much, much deeper than that had originally thought…
Hunter-Rose
After both mom and baby were listed as stable, they were ready to go home. Kristina needed a lot of time to recover as a C-Section is an incredibly invasive and taxing procedure. She needed all of her energy in order to care for her new daughter, and luckily Kyle was ready to be there by her side during this not-as-planned surgery. As they were getting things together, Kyle noticed something on Hunter-Roses birth certificate.
Familiar Name
In the midst of it all, they never actually caught the name of the doctor that saved the life of their new baby. Once all the mayhem calmed down and Kyle was grabbing the birth certificate, he noticed something that was oddly comforting and familiar. Seeing the name of the doctor that delivered his daughter struck a chord in him. He brought the certificate to his wife to see if she would know why he knows that name.
This Wasn’t Their First Meeting
Kyle gave Kristina the paper and asked her about the name. She thought for a moment, and then her eyes lit up. Just a few months ago, Kyle and Kristina found their own birth certificates as they were cleaning up the home in preparation for the new baby. They both knew the name Dr. Jorge Sotolongo because he delivered them in the same hospital more than 20 years ago. They brought this news to the nurses who then passed the info along to the doctor, and his reaction was everything.
Kristina Was Ecstatic
Kristina was absolutely in love with the idea that her daughter was brought into the world by the very hands that brought her and Kyle in. Â She recalls, “It was such a pleasing coincidence. Not only my daughter, but I myself came to this world through the hands of the same doctor. It was weird as well, as I never met him before”. The photo of Kristina as a newborn and her mother is a very heartwarming memory!
Kyle Was Astonished
Kyle had no idea that this type of connection would ever happen. He recalls feeling extremely blessed that the only doctor that could save their daughter was also the one that delivered both him and Kristen. Kyle knew that everything happens for a reason and that this was no accident!
Dr. Jorge Felt Very, Very Old
The reaction of the doctor in question is nothing short of hilarious. Yes, he was amazed and excited at the idea of delivering an entire family, but this was also a small realization for him. “Oh, it means I am turning old. I have delivered two generations of the same family. I never realized such a thing before in my career for some 20 years or so.”
A Huge Thank You
The parents desperately wanted to personally deliver a huge ‘thank you’ for delivering their baby in such a hard and time-sensitive situation. They also chatted about the crazy possibility of him delivering all three of them… And hopefully, even more kids that they have in the future!
New Friends
The group were in awe of this moment and instantly grew closer together. They all claim to have a great chemistry and would absolutely want to work together in the future. Dr. Jorge even joked about delivering Hunter-Rose’s child one day!
Gotta Capture This Moment!
Of course, the group had to snap an adorable photo before the family was on their way to their new life. Once Kristina’s mother heard about the doctor, she rushed over to the hospital again to formally meet him and thank him for giving her daughter and granddaughter life!
It Was Fate
Initially, Kristen was extremely stressed that her birth plan was literally thrown to the wind. In the end, she was overly happy at how it went. She was given a healthy baby and a beautiful connection to an esteemed doctor. This was an absolute rarity!
New Family Doctor
There was no question that Dr. Jorge would be their family doctor for life. For every newborn checkup for Hunter-Rose (and there would be many due to her premature age) they would be consulting the one and only Dr. Jorge. And even though the doctor joked about it, the new parents absolutely want him to deliver any grandchildren their daughter may give them, not to mention any more kids that Kyle and Kristen have. But that is way, way into the future!
Bringing The Proof
Dr. Jorge asked Kyle to bring his birth certificate for a photo… Just for memories. Dr. Jorge still recalls that he was so shocked at the slim chances of this happening and he wanted to document all the birth certificates side-by-side. It was such a wonderful moment for the doctor! He entered their lives so quickly without even knowing that this wasn’t his first time.
The highlight of His Career
Dr. Jorge claims that this was the best part of his career. Everything happens for a reason and fate is never random, so he knows that he was meant to be in this family’s life. He says that he feels such a connection to them due to the dire circumstances that he was brought to them for Hunter-Rose’s birth.
