The small town of Chihuahua, Mexico has one horrific, yet interesting, urban legend: The bridal mannequin in the front window of La Popular is actually the embalmed corpse of the original shop owners daughter.
This is definitely a bizarre and over-the-top rumor, but it didn’t come out of the blue. The story behind La Pascualita is harbored in truth.
Back in the 1930s, the original shop owners had a young daughter who was to be married. She picked out her favorite dress from the store and decided that was going to be her wedding dress.
Soon after, their daughter tragically passed away, leaving her mourning fiancé and family behind. The town was in shock that the popular family suffered such a tragic loss.
Many people attended her viewing and funeral out of respect, but her burial was closed to family only.
Weeks later, this mannequin appeared in the shop window. Anyone who knew the family knew that the new window mannequin looked just like their daughter.
Anyone who has seen the bride in person says that she as an eerie aura around her. The ‘plastic’ parts of the mannequin are bumpy and far from the smooth surface of a usual mannequin.
Those are the least alarming characteristics of La Pascualita. One long-time employee had this to say about her:
“Every time I go near Pascualita my hands break out in a sweat. Her hands are very realistic and she even has varicose veins on her legs. I believe she’s a real person.”
So, what’s the truth? Naturally, the current shop owners claim that it’s just an old, realistic mannequin.
Weirdly enough, they were ordered to keep La Pascualita in the shop window when they bought it from the original owner. Only the owner is allowed to change her.
Seems a bit suspicious!
