It’s that time of year! The best way to get into the Halloween spirit is to run around in the dark with your friends while getting horribly scared. It’s hard to find a good one, honestly. It’s a pretty competitive field, and many people are always trying to get the title of the best haunt in America.

13th Gate – Baton Rouge, LA

There are 13 different realms that you have to walk through during this haunt. The park itself is 40,000 square feet, and it’s all horrifying! The haunt prides itself on perfecting ultra-realism. You can find yourself trapped in a tiny cellar, crawling over a bridge that hangs over a pit of real snakes, and even walking in on a voodoo ritual. This place is definitely not for those with many fears…

Terror Behind the Walls – Philadelphia, PA

This place is scary even outside of the Halloween season. This haunt takes place at Eastern State Penitentiary located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Fairmount neighborhood. Construction was completed on 1829 and it held prisoners until 1971. Since then, it’s been opened as a museum and a haunted house. The haunt has tons of different attractions inside, from a horrifying doctor to running around through old, real cell blocks.

A lot of the time, with your permission, the actors will take you away from your group and isolate you… You could say that they’re giving you the real Penitentiary experience. It’s also certified haunted.

PennHurst Haunted Asylum – Spring City, PA

Pennsylvania coming in again for another top haunted house. And again, this haunt takes place at a real, retired asylum. That makes it even creepier! The asylum plays on the idea of human experiments “gone wrong” and running amuck. The folks in charge are known for making this disorienting and scary.

Netherworld – Norcross, GA

Some folks have said this is the Disneyworld is haunted houses. They’ve got horrifying creatures hiding in the shadows as well as playing into the five senses to make things even scarier… Haunt goers will experience horrible smells, pitch-black rooms, and even crawling through spinning obstacles while something horrifying is chasing you. The building that the haunt takes place in is also known to be haunted, which makes things even spookier!
