Notorious Photo
This notorious photo had won Pulitzer prizes, but that wasn’t without controversy. The boy in the photo was Kong Nyong. He survived after the photo was taken and recovered from the famine with no help of the photographer, Kevin Carter. Carter ended up committing suicide a few years after the photo was taken. Kong passed away in 2007 due to illness.

Mary Reeser is one of the very few cases of spontaneous human combustion. Of course, there has never been a “confirmed” case of SHC since it’s so hard to prove… But, really, this is a close contender.
The Lost Hikers
Two girls disappeared during a hike in Panama. It was 10 weeks before their remains were found… But, it was just bone fragments and some equipment, including a camera with some images on it. There were a couple of images taken on the day they went missing, and then nothing for 10 days. Then, 90 more images were taken. They were mostly dark, maybe some branches in the shot… Then, you see a few photos of their hair and some blood. This is still a mystery.
The Odessa Catacombs
Many people don’t realize this, but there is an even larger network of catacombs in Ukraine. The Odessa Catacombs have a long history of death. The most famous instance was a young woman named Masha, who took a wrong turn in 2005 and got lost. Her body was retrieved two years later.
The Paris Catacombs
The Paris Catacombs are infamous. It’s a 2km network of tunnels with around 6 million actual skeletons. This was supposed to be a solution to overflowing cemeteries in the late 1700s.
Creepy Body Chute
The infamous Waverly Hills Sanatorium used to be a tuberculosis treatment center. It was in business in 1926 through 1961. This place was truly evil, and the poor patients inside were subject to dismal and depressing lives. The ones that perished were dragged through this chute to the crematorium in a separate building.
