Animal Shelters Getting an Influx of Foster Volunteers Amidst COVID-19

Homeless pets are winning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Foster volunteers are at an all-time high right now and animal shelters are truly benefitting.

Foster volunteers are coming out in droves to give temporary placement to homeless pets around the country, and it's the little bit of sunshine we all need right now.

Humane organizations are using the power of social media to ask for help, and their calls are being answered.

"We put out a plea for emergency fosters and received over 500 applications in a matter of DAYS, which is nothing short of incredible," Asheville Humane Society staffer Meghan Lavender told Good News Network in an email this week. "The REALLY good news, however, is that many shelters in cities around the US are experiencing the same amazing response from their communities."

Kern County Animal Shelter in Bakersfield had to adapt their business to the statewide shutdowns and so they created a "drive-thru" adoption day for their shelter pets.

People would pull up in their car with paperwork and would then be sent home with a foster pet, food, and supplies.

If this doesn't spark joy in a dark time, we're not sure what will.
