Serena Has a Totally Relatable Mom Moment During First Match Since Pandemic

Since the start of the pandemic, Serena has been off a main stage court except to practice. She played her first match in months yesterday, against Bernarda Pera. She won, but she admitted that all of her attention wasn't on the game.

In the middle of playing in Kentucky's Top Seed Open, she heard the sound of her daughter coughing from the stands. She was sitting with Serena's husband, Alexis Ohanian, but still, her mommy senses started to tingle and she took her eyes off the court. "I heard her cough. I know my baby's cough. She was drinking, and she was eating grapes. And I'm then like, oh my gosh is she chewing? Make sure you chew," Williams said.

She managed to exchange the quickest of glances with her husband, telling him with her eyes to make sure she was okay. "I didn't look over there but I kind of flashed my husband a look like make sure she's chewing her grapes because she shouldn't be coughing while she's eating grapes. That's the new mom in me and it's good," she said.
