The Insides of These Everyday Objects Are Totally Unexpected

Have you ever looked at an object and wondered "What is going on inside there?" If so, your questions might finally be answered. Getting a glimpse inside a piece of high-tech machinery or ancient artifact is a rare and fascinating opportunity. What does it look like inside some of these incredible creations?

Agate Shell

Don't know what an agate shell is? Neither does anyone else. Allegedly, agate is a type of rock formation made up of primarily chalcedony and quartz. Thanks to these components, it ends up consisting of a wide variety of colors. Cut it open, and it might look a little something like this.

A Golf Ball In A Tree

Here's something you don't see very often, a combination of the natural world and the man-made world. Once upon a time, a golf ball was hit into the base of a tree. The tree, not exactly an avid golfer, had no choice but to grow around it. Once lumberjacks cut it down years later, they cut through the golf ball as well.

A Zippo Lighter

Ever wondered how you can light a fire with just the flick of your thumb? Well, this might be able to provide a little bit of insight for all you curious types. Thanks to some quick friction, a fire can appear in your hands in just a moment (or a few, depending on how long it takes you to get a grip on the top of it.)

Toothpaste Tube

When you need to get your mouth clean, you should be grabbing a tube of toothpaste, but make sure it isn't chopped in half like this one is. The pinwheel effect allows for that very cool color combination once you squirt a pea-sized amount onto your brush. Keep those teeth pearly white!

White Oak Fossil

This is a tree that has been fossilized on the inside, resulting in a wide array of beautiful color combinations. Who knows how many other trees look like this around the world! Next time you go camping or hiking, take a look around and see if those colorful flowers in the corner of your eye are actually something else...

Batter Up!

The inside of a baseball is something you might have believed you would never see, but wonder no more. The interior of a baseball is made of rubber, red rubber, cotton, and at the very center, a cork. All of these elements together add up to a distinctive weight and feel of an authentic game playing ball.

Peeking In a Piñata

Have you ever been curious as to how all that sweet candy fits into a colorful piñata? Well, the inside is right there for your viewing! If the internal candy served as internal organs, this anatomical layout would be very helpful. You might be better off seeing a dentist than a surgeon after this though...

Sheep Fur

This sheep only got half of its full haircut done, leaving it looking like no other animal in the best way possible. In order to make enough wool for the farmers, they really have to grow out those tresses. Once the entire shearing process is complete, these sheep step onto the pasture feeling better than ever.

Mutilated Motorcycle

Hop on to this ride for a quick trip around the block, but make sure you get the other half first! This is a motorcycle cut in half, so you can see all the inner mechanisms that make this vehicle work. It's probably a little easier to chop a motorcycle in half than it is a car, don't you think?

A Tortoise Skeleton

This tortoiseshell exposes something that almost none of us knew: the turtle was attached to his hardened home the whole time! This is something that certainly isn't brought up in your elementary school biology course, but maybe it should be. It is way cooler than learning that mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell, right?

Breaking a Jawbreaker

If you never made it to the inner rings of a classic jawbreaker candy, you're definitely not alone. If you cut one open you can see that they are made up of tons of colorful candy rings. You might have to permanently mutilate your jaw to get to them, but for some people, that's totally worth the hassle.

A Submarine Torpedo Chamber

Who wants to dive under the sea? Word of advice, don't go underwater with only a half of a submarine. Sure, it might look super cool and impressive from this angle, but under the sea, things would not be so great. The only half sub you should be considered about is the sandwich kind.

Philadelphia Concert Hall

Demolition doesn't usually look like you just sawed off half of the building, but out in Philadelphia, that's how the Concert Hall was ultimately destroyed. You can still see some of the history inside of its now-opened walls. Up top are the balconies, now falling, and below are entrances to the main room. All that's missing is the stage (and the other half of the building...).

Un-Upholstered

When you're settling into your favorite chair after a long day of work, you don't think about all of the stuff you're really sitting on. Beneath this fine leather covering was a collection of wood, springs, cotton, lining, and more. As long as you have good upholstery though, you'll never have to consider this mess. Out of sight, out of mind!

Camera Lens

Photographers might need to look away for this one. What is best known as a piece of very expensive equipment, the camera lens is filled with little parts and gears to help get that perfect final shot. Everything inside this piece of machinery can make you look your absolute best, and that's nothing to cut down.

A Fire Hydrant

Have you ever wondered how a fire hydrant actually works? After all, you rarely ever see them in use, only in movies or in the event of a massive tragedy. As you can see from this photo though, it's actually just a clever covering for a high-pressure hose. The only question left is why do they make them red...

Gun Barrel

This photo looks just like the inside of the famous James Bond opening sequence, but a little more open at the top. This is actually a look into the barrel of a WW11 royal ordnance tank gun. You definitely don't want to have this view in real life, especially if you're James Bond himself. Get out of the way!

Open Cargo Ship

Why someone would ever order for the halving of a giant cargo ship like this one, we'll never know, but it definitely speaks to how big this ship is! This is a whopping 7 stories tall, and typically each floor would be filled with precious overseas cargo. You wouldn't trust anything shipping like this though...

Suburu Car

If you thought a car couldn't be cut in half, you are sorely mistaken.  This showcase gave Suburu customers and everyday car enthusiasts an inside look of what makes a Suburu a Suburu. Turns out you might have a little more storage space than you previosuly thought, as long as you know how to get to it!

A Firework

When Katy Perry said, "Baby you're a firework" was this really what she was talking about? This is what those colorful explosives look like when they're cut open and seen from the inside. The more that is stuffed in there, the bigger an explosion might end up being. Let those colors burst!

Underwater Communication Cable

This communicator was sliced right down the middle, and it's communicating something very clearly...that this thing is super cool! Look how neat it appears on the inside. If you didn't know any better, you might mistake it for a high-tech plate or piece of home decor.

Banana Tree

There's always money in the banana stand, but there are always patterns in the banana tree! Similar to a ginger plant, the banana tree tends to grow more like a giant herb. Their stems are succulent rather than wood, giving them this unique quality. It's beautiful inside, but not as beautiful as a banana smoothie...

Cleared Keg

If you thought that a keg was just an empty bucket with a hose running through it, congrats, you're pretty much correct. Next time you and your friends clear out a keg full of beer, know that this is what it looks like inside. Unless you want a great story, try to avoid cutting it open just to double-check...

A Photocopier

Something that you use every day probably doesn't see a whole lot of care put into it. Now, by seeing the inside of one of these, you can finally figure out why the printer keeps jamming. This thing is so intricate that looking at it once is like looking at a painting...

Paint Stirrer From 50 Years Ago

When you go to a store like Home Depot or Sears, they might have to stir your paint for you. When doing that, they'll use a paint stirrer. Somewhere along the line, someone might get the idea to see how thick they could make a stirrer. This is what 50 years of paint looks like on one of these.

The iPhone

Steve Jobs would have hated to see this photo. This is one of the first generations of iPhone, turn open for some kind of clarity into what makes it tick. This is what you don't see when you go to the Apple Store, or when you have to stick one of these in a bowl of rice.

Helmets

For different types of sports, there are different types of protective gear. A lot goes into the football helmet on the right because it is much more of a contact sport than hockey, which is seen on the left. You don't want a brain injury in either one though, so just make sure you're donning one of these in either.

A Car Engine

This is just one type of engine, there are so many more that are just as totally unbelievable on the inside. This is what's sitting in the interior of your car, and it looks very confusing. You're probably better off heading to a mechanic who can help you figure this crazy thing out for good.

8-Ball

While it's not a perfectly clean cut, now you know what’s inside of an 8-ball. The 8-ball has long been associated with the supernatural for whatever reason, so many people would be freaked out seeing this photo...

A Baguette

Cutting this kind of bread lengthwise is way more satisfying. Add some butter or jam and you've got yourself a delicious breakfast on your hands. Is anyone else craving bread after seeing this picture? Just imagine it coming straight out of the oven, it would be incredible...

Car Keys

Who knows why these car keys were opened, or who would ever want to see them from this view, but here they are! If you've ever wondered how the beeping from a distance can occur, or how you can lock and unlock a car, this is how. The mystery has finally been solved once and for all...

Abandoned Building

It kind of looks like a dollhouse from this angle, doesn't it?  This is an abandoned old building just moments away from being torn down permanently. You can see into every part of this home, like the hallways and bedrooms, even the attic is partially visible from this side. It's wild!

Roman Candle Firework

You would never think to yourself "Hey, I wonder what the inside of a Roman Candle Firework looks like?" Nevertheless, this is what it looks like. You can see where the spark would travel all the way to the bottom and ignite a fun and exciting explosion that's perfect for all patriotic celebrations.

Barbeque

Because...sure, why not check in with a severed grill right now? The coals look incredible in this look-in, and you can even see the patties chopped in half and currently cooking. It's pretty fascinating, although weird to think who even thought of the idea to do this...oh well! Looks cool.

Road

This piece of highway might have been mistaken for a work of art in another capacity. Look how cool that mosaic looks! You probably wouldn't ever call a pothole or broken road "pretty" but that certainly is how they can appear. Put this thing in the Museum of Modern Art!

Rocket

They say it's not rocket science...but this one actually is. This is a rocket that, for some reason, someone cut in half. You can clearly see that a lot of special work goes into making one of these things. It looks super difficult and super confusing...be glad you're not the one handling it.

Range Rover

Have you ever been curious about what's really inside the giant thing you drive everywhere? Well, thanks to this wonky car show, you totally can. This view offers a literal inside look into how your vehicle works and is operated when you're behind the wheel. Stay safe out there!

Paint Tube

This is an art piece that made an art piece. An artist was using a tube filled with paint to create their masterpiece but used a variety of colors over a long period of time. In the end, the colors all overlapped and dried enough to look like this. It looks pretty cool in the end.

A Baseball

Did you know that a cork sat at the very center of an everyday baseball? It's true! The other layers are various forms of rubber and cotton that help give the ball its distinctive feel and weight. After all, you can't get that "thwack" of a baseball bat against any other type of ball, now could you?

Plane Engine

There's nothing plain about this plane engine. It's anything but! There are more than enough little details that go into this machine, but the end result is the miracle of flight. Without this strange-looking mechanism, you would never be able to travel the globe.

Wooden Structures

Turns out a circular tree trunk is a little more geometric than you originally thought. This shows the clever cutting that one visual artist created to help exemplify this point. This creation gives a whole new meaning to the toy Lincoln Logs...

Wooden Ship

Once upon a time, wooden ships were how people got from one world to the next, and the stay on board wasn't always pretty. You could have been in any one of these visible parts of the boat. It could have been down below or up on the deck, but either way, you were getting seasick or sick of the sea...

Stream Train

Who knows who comes up with some of the most incredible inventions of all time? Steam trains were revolutionary at the time of their release, though these days we rarely think about them at all. Here, you can take a peek into how one of these things works and operates...

Gun

For something that can be so life-changing, this weapon is actually pretty simplistic in design on the inside. A few bullets loaded up, a way to shoot them out, and a trigger to set the whole thing off. Don't look too closely though, it could be potentially fatal...

Stalagmite

Not sure what a stalagmite is? Not many are. The stalagmite is a rock formation found rising from the floor of a cave. This happens when the droppings from the ceiling accumulate and create a visual like this. Once cut open, they almost look like some kind of curved wood!

Cord Cutting

No, you're not looking at a petri dish under a microscope. This is actually a collection of cords that were cut open. Notice how each one is filled with multiple wires and coatings. It certainly looks like something scientific is going on beneath the surface, but it's just electronics.

Submarine

This is an inside look into an actual submarine, where people roam around safely under the sea. How anyone could live a life in a metal tube under the sea baffles the mind, but these professionals do it! The person walking below the machine provides some insight into how big this thing actually is...

Golden Gate Bridge

Inside the Golden Gate bridge is not a sight anyone expected to see in their lifetime, but here it is in all its glory. The main span of it is 4200 feet, which is pretty long if you think about it. One cable is about 7650 feet long, but there are some more exciting measurements on that little place card.

CAT Scanner

As if getting a CAT scan wasn't terrifying enough, imagine it didn't come with it's nice and sleek covering. This thing is grotesque on the inside, no wonder they try to conceal it! It looks a little too overwhelming to consider what goes fully into it, so best to just move along.

Amber

Mother Nature can really create some majestic works of art right in our own backyards! This is amber, which is actually fossilized tree resin, long known for its beautiful appearance. Who knew holding it against the sunlight would make it look even prettier?

A Tank

Tanks a lot for this beast of a machine...where does a person even stand? This thing is meant to cover long stretches of land safely and quickly, protecting those inside from any potential enemy attack. If they're hauling in this manmade weapon, chances are that you should get out of there...

Grenades

Would Bruno Mars catch a grenade for you if he knew this was what laid inside? This is an internal look at one of the deadliest devices known to man. It fits in the palm of your hand, but it also can wipe out a whole house in some cases. This machine is not one to be messed with under any circumstances.

A Grenade

A grenade is pretty insane to look at, no matter what angle you're seeing it from. Here, you can see where the little infamous "click" sound comes from--the center of the grenade! This handheld bomb is something that could make or break a life, so proceed handling with extreme caution...

A Glob of Car Paint

Car paint isn't like any regular paint. It has to withstand the elements. It has to be evenly spread and not obscure any vision while on the road. This kind of paint tends to be a bit more "globby" and can stick together. Someone got the bright idea to glob it all together and got this in the end...

Bullets

There are 17 different bullets here, but each one of them is so different. Notice how they each have the black in the bottom of it and metal at the top. This gives the weapon maximum impact upon being shot. So small, and yet so dangerous, these are nothing to be trifled with...

Rattlesnake's Rattle

You don't ever want to hear this sound in real life! A rattlesnake is a surefire way to have a bad day, though it's physical rattle can be very pretty. The segmented pieces literally rattle when they vibrate together to create the distinctive shaking sound. Clashing together makes the noise that warns you to stay away!

Cruise Ship

This does not look like the Titanic, but it might just end up that way! The Silver Spirit Cruise Ship was lengthened in 2018 to add more space. To do this, engineers needed to cut it down the middle, slotted in a new section, and then resealed it. About 49 feet were added to the ship.

Plant Bulbs

Technically, planting anything this way is called "lasagna style". Not because of the food though, just the layering. By using this technique, you'll have a longer bloom of your flowers or vegetables. Plus, if the plant doesn't last year-round, this will increase its chances of growing again the following year.

Aloe Vera

Aloe is a special healing plant, not just a burn ointment we buy in a convienience store. Technically, aloe is an entire genus with more than 500 species of flowering succulent. We tend to think of aloe vera first though, due to how frequently it comes up on summer vacations.

Bowling Ball

It might be the outside of the bowling ball that's personalized, but it's whats on the inside that really counts. The bowling ball is made up of different cores that determine how the ball is going to roll. Additionally, the holes determine whether or not your ball is going right for the gutter or for the game-winning shot.
