The Most Legendary Comic-Con Cosplays of All Time

Movies, comics, video games galore. If you can name any character, chances are someone on this list is cosplaying them.

The Nun

The most recent iteration of “The Conjuring” universe series was hosted by this nasty looking devotee. We sincerely hope that this person took those crazy teeth out before they went partying that night.

Luke Skywalker

If you told me that this was the real Mark Hamill, I would believe you. However, that is not the case. This extreme lookalike (and probably superfan) absolutely nailed the classic Skywalker pose and expression.

Ron Burgundy

Reporting live from Comic-Con 2019, this is Ron Burgundy from Channel 4 News. This costume is so good, people probably tried to snatch off his sunglasses to see if it was actually Will Farell. Stay classy, San Diego.

Jafar

Everyone is so stoked on the new CGI Lion King movie, but you have to respect the classic that it came from. This is the most convincing Jafar costume that anyone could pull off. Drop the cloaks and don some leather armor, you can cosplay Draven from League of Legends the day after.

Scar-Face

Say hello to my little… Nephew. This contemporary mashup is both topical and classic. Let’s just hope that this guy didn’t get stopped at the door after failing the pat-down inspection.

Mysterio

This is a pretty niche cosplay, but the execution is legendary. Mysterio is from Spiderman: Far From Home, and we are far from disappointed in the quality of this costume. The only concerning thing, how does he see out of the helmet?

The Tethered, Us

If you haven’t seen the most recent Jordan Peele movie, put down whatever you were doing, clear your schedule, and enjoy. Us won a ton of awards this year, and rightfully so. This cosplay is pretty spot on to the characters in the movie.

Pennywise the Clown

God, that grin is disturbing. In celebration of It: Chapter II (Coming out in September by the way), this costume is just as freaky as the soulless entity that is It. Hopefully, all the It cosplays will inspire a new breed of the dancing clowns after the new movie comes out.

The Terminator

We had to stop and actually question whether this was Arnold in the flesh. Alas, tis not, but this guy made such a convincing case that we’re sure people were mistaking him for the Gover-nator. Maybe next year he’ll be back.

Steve and Robin

The new dynamic duo is back and ready to scoop up some more secret Russian information. For those who haven’t seen Stranger Things season 3, which you should immediately, Robin is a new character that brings a ton to the table, and we’re excited to see her character come even further.

Iron Dog

Who says dogs can’t be nerds too? This pup gives Tony Stark a run for his money, and now that he’s canonically dead, maybe this little dude will replace him. Imagine this dog wearing the Infinity Gauntlet.

The Good Advice Cupcake

This costume is both cute and positive. For those who don’t know, the Good Advice Cupcake is a youtube series of general, feel-good advice from a sentient cupcake who feels the same pain as humans.

Aziraphale and Crowley

These handsome folks do the Good Omen’s cast justice. One from heaven, one from hell, they do say that opposites attract.

The Night King

Winter is coming, might as well plan a tropical vacation. This ambitious depiction of the Night King (Game of Thrones, dummies) walks a fine line between horrific and comedic.

Baby Groot

Wow, we can’t even imagine how long and difficult it was to make that mask from scratch. Look at the detail in the headpiece! Whoever this person is, they deserve a full scholarship to costume design school.

Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde

These costumes are so cute. For those who haven’t watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Veruca Salt really wanted a golden goose egg, so she got one, and Violet Beauregarde chewed a piece of gum that turned her into a blueberry.

The Joker

That’s not your mama’s Joker costume! We are having a hard time identifying which version of Joker this guy is trying to emulate, but whatever it is, he pulls it off convincingly.

Bob Ross

Bob Ross is out there somewhere watching us all make happy mistakes and move on from them. RIP to a modern hero, thankfully his legacy is being lived out through respectful individuals like this.

Mugatu

Another brilliantly performed Will Ferrel costume. Having the poodle especially pulls this whole thing together. Maybe this guy is going to play Mugatu in the recently announced “Zoolander on Ice.”

The Mask

Beautiful work! This is a pretty easy costume to put together, but the mannerisms that Jim Carrey uses are the key ingredient to a successful cosplay. Where did they get that shirt?

Summer

This is completely terrifying if you ask me. There’s something about plastic masks that’s just so bizarre, I’m sure I’m not alone in this. Regardless, this is a killer Summer costume, y’all go watch Rick and Morty asap.

Deadpool in Drag

Another niche costume idea, but anyone who knows Deadpool knows that he is a man of many “disguises.” That being said, holy moly this costume is good.

Toy Soldier

This is an incredible idea. The hardest part about this costume is the fact that his boots are glued to the stand, and he has to wobble around all day.

Imperator Furiosa

Fans of Mad Max Fury Road will get this one, and if you look closely enough, there’s a bandit couple in the background ready to fight.

Ace Ventura, Pet Detective

Another brilliant depiction of Jim Carrey, this shines through complete with the tutu, plaid boxers, and everything in between. Peep the expression on this guy’s face, now that is a true Jim Carrey fan.

John Snow and Thanos

A crossover that should have happened before the conclusion of both of their character’s timelines. HBO definitely has enough money to make this a reality in the suspected off-shoot of Game of Thrones.

Iron Man

These Iron Man costumes are getting more and more exciting every year. This is the version from the first Iron Man movie with Robert Downey Jr., which is arguably the best one.

Elastgirl

The Incredibles 2 crushed it in the box office this year, so it is only appropriate that this was a hot costume at the Comic-Con. Can you imagine swinging from buildings in those heels? Madness.

Scoob and the Gang

Jinkies! This crew looks fit to solve a mystery. Hopefully, this isn’t a representation of the crash-and-burn live-action Scooby-Doo.

Elsa

This might be the best Elsa cosplay ever done. Everything is perfect here, down to the blue contacts in her eyes. Great job!

Harley Quinn

Thank goodness that this isn’t the Suicide Squad version of Harley Quinn. This person gets it, Quinn was never supposed to be depicted as a senseless aggressor.

Another Pennywise

The same motivation is here, but the different execution is almost scarier. Every It cosplay has its own unique freakiness.

Inspector Gadget

This childhood classic tugs at our heartstrings. Chances are, this guy didn’t have to go through hundreds of hours of painful surgeries to get these enhancements though.

Wonder Woman

This one hits the nail on the head, ignoring modern tropes for Wonder Woman and including her armbands make this a classic reinvented.

Widowmaker

This one is for all those Overwatch fans out there. This costume is absolutely flawless, perfectly executing all of Widowmaker’s details, and including all of her gear.

Mystique

All we can say is; WOW. The attention to detail in this costume rivals that of high-paid Broadway costume designers. Flawless execution.

Turboman

This superhero has been lost in time. Fortunately, we have this fine gentleman to carry the torch for the forgotten hero. He even has a Turboman action figure.

The Mummy

This costume is a bit abstract, but it does capture the key points of The Mummy’s character. It’s refreshing to see a female take on the generally male represented character.

The Night King (The Real One)

This costume could not have been cheap. That being said, all that money went to a very impressive place. Now, let’s see if we can get some money invested in the continuation of the Game of Thrones finale.

Lego Batman

This must have been difficult to pass the security check with. This is a very creative and thoughtful costume.

Homer Simpson

Dear God this image is so cursed I’m afraid it’ll give my computer a virus.

Stan Lee, and Stan Lee

The tragic death of Stan Lee rocked the world of comics this year. This is such an adorable photo, rest in peace, Mr. Lee.

Batman Vs. Superman

We haven’t seen this one executed well yet, and this might just take the cake. More satire than seriousness, that is exactly what this costume needed.

Jesse Pinkman

This is Aaron Paul’s real daughter, cosplaying as her dad. He must be so proud.

Leela

Woah! I wasn’t expecting to see that eye in real life ever. We give this Leela cosplay 10 Planet Express ships out of 10.

Bumblebee

A little backstory on this costume, it took $1 million to make, and it turns into an actual Camero.

Groot

This is another one that is mind-blowingly intricate. The amount of time that these artists put into their costumes should be admired by the general public more.

Mystique

Now, this is a Mystique cosplay that doesn’t require that much attention to detail. No matter what, this dog will be loved.

The Mad Hatter

Custom designed cosplay for disabled folks is the coolest. This cosplay, in particular, should be inspiring for those who feel discouraged about pursuing cosplay as a hobby.

Penguin and the Joker

The 1990’s classic “Batman Begins” was a flop, but these costumes inspired by that movie might make someone want to check it out.

The Joker (A Different One)

This is the first “The Dark Knight” Joker that we covered. This cosplay is from arguably one of the coolest scenes in that movie, rock on Joker cosplayer.

Buzz Lightyear

The detail in this costume is impeccable. You can clearly determine which scene this costume is from, here’s a hint, it’s not from the first Toy Story.

Albus Dumbledore

Back from the dead, Dumbledore is back to grant every Comic-Con goer with detention. 10 points to Slytherin!

Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy (Girl)

The Simpsons fans out there will be. proud of this one. Bart’s favorite comic comes to life, but this time, Fallout Boy is a girl!

Okoye

Hailing from Wakanda, this freedom fighter has been depicted in one of the most beautiful ways a person could imagine. The craziest part about this, no special effects were used in the making of this costume.

Aloy

This is the main character of the HEAVILY played RPG; Horizon Zero Dawn. Anyone who has played that game knows how spot on this costume is.

Somebody’s Grandma

Throwing it way back here, Tweety Bird and Sylvester the Cat had an unnamed grandmother, who was their caretaker. This is the closest we’ve gotten to seeing what that actual grandmother looks like.

The Black Knight

Tis Merely a Flesh Wound!

Goku and Vegeta

The impressive part about these costumes is that they came from a very specific episode of Dragonball Z.

Killer Croc

This is so impressively detailed, it honestly might not be a costume

Alien Vs. Predator

They don’t look like they dislike each other much, we think they should be fighting.

Rachel

You should go watch Blade Runner as soon as possible if you don’t know who this is.

Ezra Miller as Toadette

This was by far the coolest cosplay at Comic-Con this year. What can’t Ezra Miller do?
