Teen Recovering From Cancer Gifted A New Best Friend

A kid by the name of Ryan Betancourt, a 15-year-old from Bushwick, Brooklyn, recently overcame cancer after five rounds of chemotherapy. He received the treatment to combat his ongoing battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with last year. Nowadays, the teenager is doing better than ever and is spending his time catching up on schoolwork and playing with his new best friend, a Siberian husky.

His new pup is named ‘Shiloh Wish’. When Ryan was fighting against the clock to hold on, he was approached by the Make A Wish Foundation to give him anything he wanted. His wish was to attend front row at a Lakers game but was told that this wish wouldn't be possible until games reopened after the pandemic. Ryan then picked his next big wish, he wanted a Siberian husky.

Ryan wasn't dismayed by his change of plans. It turned out to be a gift that kept on giving. "She is right here, she is playing with a bottle right now, but she's so good, funny, amazing, she's such a good dog," he replied, "I’m so thankful to everyone who made it possible."

Ryan continues to give back to the cause. He and his mother have already raised $3,100 at the ‘Light the Night Walk For Lymphoma.’

"So I knew I always wanted a Siberian husky, so Make A Wish, Amazing people they are, granted me a Siberian husky," said Betancourt. With his new best friend by his side, he is stronger than ever.
