The Story of El Muerto

The Texas/Mexico border was a hot spot for criminal activity and fights back in the day. There were no rules in the land that the outlaws ran. Even amid all of the battle and bloodshed, the outlaws noticed one mysterious rider who had no head...

The headless rider would weave in and out of crowds during battles. They said that he carried his head on the back of the saddle. Suddenly, all of the outlaws would turn their sights on the headless rider...

The only name that the headless rider was known as was "El Muerto," which means "The Dead Man." There were many rumors about who the headless man could have been in life, but no one could really tell...

Others believe that there was nothing paranormal about the headless rider at all. In fact, they believed it was a prank. There was always a lot going on when people were fighting out and about. It would make sense that someone would want to pull a prank and tie a scarecrow to a horse to distract people.

Sadly, the truth was even grimmer than they could have imagined. One night, a group of ranchers decided to settle the matter when they saw the headless rider. They shot at the man and the horse until the horse had fallen. Upon inspection, they found a dead horse and an even more dead headless man...

The body of the man was riddled with arrows and spears. He had no blood left in his body and was rigged to sit upon the saddle of the horse. As it turns out, the man was actually a criminal named Vlad who walked into the wrong crowd. They murdered him and sent his dead body out on the horse to terrifying anyone in its path.
