Three generations of the high profile Bollywood family have tested positive for Coronavirus, officials from their Indian state of Maharashtra said.
Results showed actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, former Miss World, and her daughter Aaradhya, age 8, were infected with COVID-19. Her husband Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh, both actors, were taken to the hospital Sunday. Both men reported mild symptoms. Abhishek Bachchan tweeted that they would remain in the hospital until "the doctrs decide otherwise."
Aishwarya Bachchan, 46, is one of Bollywood's most well-known faces, but in India and America. She has starred in several Bollywood and Hollywood films. She also won Miss World in 1994 and is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS. In 2003 she was the first Indian actress to hold a jury position at the Cannes Film Festival. She and her daughter are reportedly asymptomatic.
Amitabh Bachchan, 77, tweeted to his millions of followers that he had tested positive, and the outpouring of support that flooded his replies was overwhelming.
"Dear Amitabh ji, I join the whole Nation in wishing you a quick recovery! After all, you are the idol of millions in this country, an iconic superstar! We will all take good care of you. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!" said India's Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
