From Lady Gaga to Marilyn Manson, you won't believe what these celebrities look like when they're out and about living their daily lives...
Adele
The classic red lip and winged eyeliner makeup look combo is the British crooner's go-to for a night out. She's always impeccably dressed, whether she's on or offstage, performing at the Grammy's or walking the streets with her son. However, she sometimes opts for a softer, more toned-down look, with a nude lip and subtle eyeshadow.
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande is virtually unrecognizable. Remember her from "Victorious" on Nickelodeon? She looks like a completely different person with pale skin and bright red hair. After she left the show, she started wearing her hair in her iconic high ponytail. However, when she's out and about having a normal day, she usually wears her hair down.
Avril Lavigne
Lavigne's signature sk8r boi street style, complete with layered tanks and a men's tie, was the only thing she'd be seen in public in. She pioneered the punk girl trend, and she wouldn't be caught dead without her cargo pants and a chunky studded belt. However, she's matured her look and toned things down with a pretty blonde hairdo and lowkey winged eyeliner.
The Blue Man Group
The Blue Man Group has the ultimate, fool-proof disguise. They look nothing like their onstage personas in real life, which makes them totally unrecognizable. Unless they're walking the streets with blue body paint, they're basically incognito during their daily lives.
Boy George
Culture Club singer Boy George was a fan of avant-garde fashion in the 80s when his band was at its peak. Always decked in some kind of over-the-top hat and eyeliner, Boy George was the standout of the group. When they dropped "Karma Chameleon," he instantly hit the music scene's radar. Now, in the 2010's, he's definitely toned down his look and cut his once-long hair short and has forsaken his dramatic makeup for a more subtle approach.
John Lehr
You know him as the Geico caveman, but in reality, he's actually quite an attractive actor. If you've seen any of his other works, there's no way you'd be able to tell that he was once the Neanderthal face of the insurance company. His voice even sounds different!
Daft Punk
Taking a note from the Blue Man Group, Daft Punk also uses disguises while onstage. They rarely show their faces when on tour, and typically never do while performing. A part of their mystique, Daft Punk has garnered an air of mystery around both their identity and their music. If you ever see them out in public, sans robot suits, you probably won't think to ask for an autograph.
Deadmau5
Akin to Daft Punk, prolific DJ Deadmau5 also wears a helmet onstage, in the form of a glowing mouse head. Why? Who's to say. It's once again just a part of the DJ mystique trend that many performers have taken to. The smiling, big-eared rodent mask has brought character to Deadmau5’s public performances since the start of his career.
Taryn Manning
Manning's performance on "Orange Is The New Black" as inmate Tiffany Doggett is one of her most transformative roles. The bigoted hillbilly who antagonized Piper is virtually unrecognizable offscreen. She has real teeth, a new short blonde hairstyle, and doesn't speak with any sort of odd accent.
Elton John
The glamorous piano man is never not dressed to the nines onstage. His signature glitzy jackets and big glasses with colored shades are his go-to concert looks. In real life, he's just an average guy. When he has downtime with his family he wears some pretty basic stuff, just like any other dad.
Lady Gaga
Remember Lady Gaga's "meat suit" costume? Or her red carpet entrance where she hatched from an egg? Those were truly the days... Since the release of her most recent albums, as well as her leading role in "A Star Is Born" alongside Bradley Cooper, Gaga has gone for a much more glamorously chic look, rocking slick blonde hair and thick black eyeliner.
Gwen Stefani
Gwen's transformation is b-a-n-a-n-a-s. Former "Rich Girl" singer-turned- "The Voice" judge has gone from badass punk girl to chic rockstar over the years. She also just recently announced her plans to marry longtime boyfriend Blake Shelton. Her wedding dress is bound to be stunning.
Robbie Coltrane
The actor behind the enormous Rubeus Hagrid character from "Harry Potter" had to undergo a huge transformation to play the part. In the film, Hagrid is taller, wider and thicker than any non-magical human could ever be. To get Coltrane to look like the character, they had to fashion several unique costume pieces for him. Although Coltrane has acted in projects besides "Harry Potter," most fans wouldn't recognize him as Hagrid if you saw him walking down the street.
Taylor Momsen
Fans of "Gossip Girl" have seen Taylor Momsen transform from a classic prep school girl to a goth rocker chick within a matter of seasons. The actress left the show to focus on her punk band, The Pretty Reckless. If you ever see her out in public, she'll more than likely be wearing all black with some dark spooky makeup.
Katy Perry
Does anyone even remember Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" phase? She's handed in her signature colorful wigs for a new chic blonde pixie cut, and on a first glance, she's incredibly hard to recognize. While her look has matured, so has her sound. She's also engaged to Orlando Bloom, so consider that a glow-up.
Kesha
Since her debut in the mid-2010s, Ke$ha has changed her glittery look to a more mature platinum blonde pop look. She even dropped the "$" from her name. Since her legal battle with a former producer, she has completely reinvented her image, which is more in favor of making a "don't mess with me" statement.
KISS
Gene Simmons and the KISS gang are really just regular guys without their leather-on-leather outfits and black and white face paint. Though they still maintain an air of 80s rock at all times, without their costumes, it would be pretty difficult to pick them out of a crowd.
Adam Lambert
Rockstar Adam Lambert recently toured with Queen and certainly fits the part onstage. In real life, he just looks like a cool tatted punk guy. You might remember his eccentric outfits from his time on the American Idol stage, but he's since toned down his stage persona in favor of a more classic rock look.
Marilyn Manson
Death metal singer Marilyn Manson is a fan of corpse makeup while onstage, but when he's out living his normal life, he dresses pretty simple. He's arguably still a pretty creepy dude, but at least he doesn't walk around with his scary contacts in.
Marshmello
Electropop DJ Marshmello is fairly new to the music scene, but he broke ground when he collaborated with big names like Bastile and Khalid. Since he almost never DJs without his marshmallow helmet on, it's unlikely that you'd recognize the Philadelphia native. Fun fact: he attended Saint Joseph's University!
Nick Offerman
Who is Nick Offerman without his iconic Ron Swanson stache? Unrecognizable, that's who. He seems to be more of a fan of the clean-shaven face since his time on "Parks & Recreation" has come to an end. In his free time, he's an avid carpenter and does meet and greet tours with his famous wife, Megan Mullaly.
Bill Skarsgård
It's really hard to believe that this is the face of Pennywise the Clown from "It." He looks nothing like his super-creepy counterpart. A towering red wig, striking makeup, buck teeth — which caused Skarsgård to drool throughout the film — and a vintage clown suit are a few features that lend to the character’s awful appearance.
Ralph Fiennes
This actor had to completely transform his facial features to morph into his most famous role: Voldemort. Whether you know any of Fiennes's other work or not, it’s almost impossible to identify him in Harry Potter. Voldemort’s image is completely inhuman. His look includes a ghostly pale face, pronounced veins, and a nearly nonexistent nose.
Sia
"Chandelier" singer Sia is a fan of grandiose costumes as a part of the mystique surrounding her stage presence because she wants to keep her identity hidden. She has explained to Ellen DeGeneres that celebrities aren't afforded the same level of privacy as a normal person, so she'll never take the stage without a disguise.
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton is one of the most notable, dynamic, androgynous actors in the film industry. With her striking facial features, piercing eyes and pale hair, Swinton is a breathtaking pioneer in gender-fluid acting. Besides her uniquely non-gendered facial features, Swinton’s short hair allows her to perform in a plethora of roles rooted in mainstream androgynous identities. So, when she played the long-haired character of Dianna in Trainwreck, many audiences struggled to recognize the artist. The makeover required for the role certainly tossed her signature style out the window.
Weird Al Yankovic
Weird Al's signature curly locks are a staple to his image. If he took the stage without them, it's doubtful anyone would realize that it was him. The funny songster is known for his hits, "Like a Surgeon," and "White and Nerdy," among many other comical cover songs.
Naomi Grossman
Any true fans of American Horror Story are certainly fans of Pepper. The character — who appeared on two seasons of AHS — is a young woman with microcephaly who is a circus performer in one season and a resident of Briarcliff Manor, an insane asylum, in another. Pepper’s physical appearance is atypical, but the actress who plays her is gorgeous enough to make you doubt she’s in the role.
Zach Galifianakis
The scruffy beard is simply part of Galifianakis’ character in most of the films he's in. In many of his most popular roles, he has totally rocked the attention-grabbing facial hair. When he shaves his beard, he becomes nearly unidentifiable to fans. If he ever wanted to go incognito, hacking his facial hair off just might be all the disguise he needs.
Zooey Deschanel
Without her bangs and glasses, Zooey Deschanel is a completely different person. Her look on "New Girl" is the most similar to her IRL persona, and this photo above might as well be a complete stranger. Without her long brunette hair and signature quirky bangs, we do not know this woman.
Aaliyah
Before her untimely death in 2011, the R&B songstress rarely deviated from her straightened hair with a side part. She was also known for monochromatic looks, tracksuits, and impeccable makeup. Her death was a hit on both the music and fashion industries.
Adwoa Aboah
The model and "Gurl's Talk" founder is known for coloring her signature buzz cut whenever the occasion arises. She also always has an artfully dramatic makeup look to match, which makes her one of the most unique models on the runway. She isn't afraid to take risks with her look, and the payoff is always worth it.
Alicia Keys
During the first couple of years of her singing career, Alicia Keys could always be seen wearing her hair in cornrows with beads on the end. Now, she's matured her style and doesn't even wear makeup anymore. She's a fan of a flawless, clean face, scarves, and simple hairstyles. She's one of the most stunning women in the industry.
Amber Rose
The model and Slutwalk founder loves experimenting with wigs, but her signature look is always going to be a daring blonde buzz cut. If anyone can rock this look, it's her. She's also a fan of taking risks with her wardrobe and tends to be a showstopper on red carpets.
Angelina Jolie
Jolie can almost always be seen on the red carpet with slick hair, a nude lip, and dramatic eyes. Her iconic look is instantly recognizable and has earned her a worldwide sex symbol status. She's a fan of contoured dresses and statement accessories to enhance her already-dramatic look.
Ruby Rose
This androgynous queen - who identifies as gender-fluid - looks good with truly any haircut. Though she's partial to short hair, if you saw her out in public with a long sweeping look, you probably wouldn't recognize her.
Beyonce
It's hard to imagine Beyonce without her signature honey-blonde hair, though she did use to wear it much darker during the start of her solo career. She tends to gravitate towards sheer dresses on red carpets and never shies away from a dramatic look. Her three children are also just as well-dressed as she is. Blue Ivy is a pint-sized fashionista.
Bo Derek
Back in the 70s, the actress' cornrows were cemented as one of cinema's most memorable looks. Now in her 60s, she's given up the signature beach style and tends to wear her hair in a chic straight blonde style. She's still a 10 on the red carpet and attends events alongside her famous partner, John Corbett.
Harry Styles
The British boy band star-turned mega-rockstar Harry Styles has transformed his signature look. Once seen only in jeans and varsity jackets, Styles now exclusively flexes a high-fashion wardrobe. He loves the color black or anything extremely flashy and bold. He hosted The Met Gala and wore a stunning black lacy top. His album "Fine Line" features Styles decked out in white bell-bottom pants and a bright pink silk top. The man knows how to dress.
Brandy Norwood
Throughout the 90s and part of the new millennium, the singer and actress became known for her micro braids. Through the latter half of the decade, she's taken to wearing either chunky braids or a blowout style. No matter what she wears, she still looks just as great as she did in the 90s.
Brigitte Bardot
The 60s icon is most well-known for her striking cat eyeliner, pouty lips, and tousled blonde hair. Now in her 80s, the Frenchwoman resides in Paris and still carries the title of one of the most influential "sexually emancipated personas." In her later life, she has stepped back from the spotlight but is still prominent in activism and human rights organizations.
Cindy Crawford
Rather than have it removed, the model embraced the mole just above her lip, ultimately leading to her supermodel status. Her two children, Presley and Kaia, both models, could be her twins. They definitely got her genes, because they're two of the most beautiful young adults on the planet.
James Dean
James Dean's classic look was deceptively simple and set a decades-long trend: clean white tee-shirt, leather jacket, blue jeans, and "artfully messy" hair. He also single-handedly made chunky turtlenecks popular. Dean died at age 24, which makes his look even more timeless — he didn’t live long enough to make terrible fashion choices in the '60s.
Guy Fieri
It completely makes sense that to stand out in the well-populated field of celebrity chefs, Guy Fieri would embrace a thoroughly distinctive look: bleached blonde hair with frosted tips, elaborately shaped goatees, bowling shirts covered in flames and sunglasses that are often worn backward. That still doesn’t make it a good look. Fieri somehow looks like his clothes were overseasoned — as if Donkey Sauce had become a shirt — but perhaps that’s the mandatory dress code in Flavor Town.
Mr. T
T says that his signature haircut was inspired by photos of Mandinka tribesmen that he saw in National Geographic. T’s other signature look is his many bracelets and gold chains, which started back in his bouncer days when he’d prominently wear jewelry that was lost or left behind by someone he’d ejected from the premises. Mr. T stopped wearing gold after helping out in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but if you suggest a new hairstyle, you are a fool and will be pitied as such.
Johnny Depp
Coco Chanel's famous advice for fashion was, "before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Johnny Depp looks in the mirror before leaving the house and puts seven more things on. A hat, a scarf, two or three necklaces, tinted glasses, and three or four rings. Sometimes he'll also ruin his facial hair! Depp has had periods where he'll start dressing like his movie characters, namely Captain Jack Sparrow.
Audrey Hepburn
While Audrey Hepburn could rock a pair of gloves, a black turtleneck, and some cropped trousers, it’s the Givenchy dress she wears in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” that remains most memorable. The “little black dress” became a necessary wardrobe piece, worn by women everywhere, including First Lady Jackie Kennedy, and the dress itself was sold at auction for nearly a million dollars.
Kenny G
America's greatest and only soprano sax superstar, Kenny G, also has the music world's worst hair. He has long locks that are somehow simultaneously curly and stringy at the same time, and looking at them gives you the same feeling as hearing his music, probably while you're in an elevator or waiting on hold. He switched up his leather vests for shiny suits, but the hair stayed. However, the curly look may be in jeopardy, not because Kenny finally came to his senses about it but because they're discontinuing his favorite styling cream.
Tom Wolfe
The late actor stumbled upon his signature look by accident. He bought a white suit for summer but was too warm when he wore it to an event, so he wore it in the winter instead. Wearing white after Labor Day is a major fashion don't, which delighted him. He claims that he wore white suits for a decade and they became a substitute for his personality.
Pharrell Willams
Pharrell is a fan of oversized hats and monochromatic 'fits, but they're not really a fan of him. This signature look could use a revamp, or a smaller hat. However, his sense of style has only seemed to evolve deeper into this look, because we have yet to see Pharrell take the streets in a seemingly-normal outfit.
Karl Lagerfeld
The late Karl Lagerfeld saved the Chanel brand and was just as iconic with his personal look: white hair, black sunglasses, fingerless gloves, a detachable, highly starched collar and a tie. Overall he looks like a hitman who went into witness protection at fashion week in Paris.
Mark Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg's signature look was a hooded sweatshirt over a gray T-shirt, and he wore it every single day. Not only did this inspire a whole generation of tech entrepreneurs to dress like slobs, but it also shows that Zuckerberg pays as much attention to his clothes as he does to Facebook's data security.
Bret Michaels
Speaking of bandannas, Bret Michaels wears one almost constantly, even when he was romancing women on "Rock Of Love." It was a thinly disguised attempt to hide his baldness and elaborate hair weave, and a precarious hair situation like that means once the bandanna goes on, it cannot come off on camera.
Slash
The most iconic thing about Slash, no matter what he wears, is his signature top hat. His look has definitely aged better than his Guns n Roses bandmate Axl Rose's, which consisted of a bandana and a kilt. That's not something any man over fifty should be caught wearing, especially onstage.
Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash was "The Man In Black" because he always wore all-black clothing. In the song of that name, he said, "I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, living in the hopeless, hungry side of town," but is it a coincidence that so many fashion designers also dress in all black? Maybe Cash wore black to be a rebel, or maybe he wore it for good luck after wearing all black in his first show.
Cara Delevingne
Cara Delevingne's look is never without some sharp eye makeup and bold brows. Her hair has proven to be versatile and looks great long and sweeping or short and choppy. She's a fan of androgynous looks or super high-fashion 'fits. No matter what she wears, she always rocks it.
Amy Winehouse
Winehouses's beehive hairdo and over-the-top winged eyeliner is a look that will go down in history. Nobody can pull those off like her. She rocked tight retro dresses like no other singer, and when she had to attend court in 2009, she showed up as if she was about to attend a concert. Amy didn't change for anyone.
Jared Leto
Academy Award winner Jared Leto is frustrating because of the combination of his insane fashion sense and his apparent inability to age. What's his signature look? Bad decisions. Clashing colors, terrible hats and essentially looking like a homeless drifter who somehow spent $5,000 at a thrift store while on mushrooms; a devastatingly pretty drifter, but a hallucinating drifter nonetheless.
Flavor Flav
Flavor Flav was the hype man for Public Enemy, but despite wearing a clock as a necklace constantly, Flav was just as political as the rest of the group. The clocks served two purposes: first, it was hilarious, and second, it cast Flav comically, in almost a Shakespearean manner; the fool who speaks the truth.
Ed Sheeran
British crooner Ed Sheeran is a fan of laidback looks. You can usually find him decked out in a flannel, jeans, and Vans. When he takes the red carpet, he opts for slim suits and smart-looking frames. His signature ginger hair is usually a little touseled, giving off the ultimate rockstar vibe.
Katherine Hepburn
Katharine Hepburn collected wide-leg trousers like she collected Academy Awards. She shook off the shackles of dresses and skirts and became an iconoclast off-screen just as much as she was on screen. Plus she looked great, even though she did say, "dressing up is a bore. At a certain age, you decorate yourself to attract the opposite sex, and at a certain age, I did that. But I'm past that age."
